MUAY THAI

One on One & Group training

Muay Thai trains fighters to use every tool in their striking arsenal – punches, kicks, knees, and elbows to devastating effect. Muay Thai is also famous for its clinch, a safe haven in many styles, but a place where you punish your opponent with knees and elbow strikes in Muay Thai. Muay Thai includes intense physical and cardio conditioning to push you to your peak physical condition. Muay Thai fighters are without a doubt some of, if not the, most dangerous strikers in any Combat Sport.

At Rey’s Wing Chun/Muay Thai Academy, we aim to accommodate students at all levels. Whether you are a beginner, out to learn self-defense, wanting to get in shape, or a competitive athlete tuning up for your next fight, we have training programs to develop your individual needs.

Muay Thai Fitness

Our team of trainers will take the beginner through the basics of Muay Thai. Utilizing non-contact drills you will be instructed on the basics of Kickboxing, footwork, punches, knees, kicks and elbows. As you advance, you will develop a solid base of Muay Thai fundamentals, as well as a conditioned body. Building from your Muay Thai base you will progress to more advanced instruction.

Pad Training

Pad training consists of one-on-one pad work with other members. Our trainers will teach you advanced techniques and how to use those combinations to their fullest extent! You will also learn how to defend against the same techniques and gain a greater understanding of ring strategy. More emphasis will be put on physical conditioning and fitness. Your instructors will introduce you to grappling techniques and elbows. You will also be allowed to participate in both boxing and Muay Thai sparring.

Sparring

Sparring class will allow you to participate in both contact boxing and Muay Thai sparring. It is supervised by our instructors and requires that you have reached 3-6 months of experience in either boxing or Muay Thai. Other requirements include that you have passed a current physical examination in order to obtain an approved California Athletic Amateur license. Ask our trainers or front desk staff for details.

Competitive

Competitive training is just that – training to fight. This class is as close to Thailand as you can get without a passport! You get true Muay Thai training to prepare you for fighting. The catch here is that you must compete for Rey’s Wing Chun/Muay Thai Academy if you attend this class. Pad work, bag work, sparring, jogging and true dedication make up this class. You must commit 4 – 6 days a week to train and have a current amateur or pro license. Ask instructors for further details. (90-minute class)

WING CHUN KUNG FU

One on One & Group training

AGES 13 YEARS & UP

There are different levels of learning Wing Chun; each hand form or weapon form symbolizes a level. Sil Lim Tao is the foundation of Wing Chun. Sil Lim Tao teaches students centerline theories, building good structure for each technique, and develops the sinking energy that is needed to root oneself to the ground.

If the student fully understands and is able to perform each technique at this level, they will be promoted to a second level. Chum Kui form gives students more understanding of the importance of footwork, turning, stepping, and theories of using body energy, i.e. use of less energy to achieve a powerful defense and offense.

The next form after Chum Kui level is Mook Yang Jong (wooden dummy). There are seven sections within the Mook Yang Jong. Each section has its own theories and principles. For example, the seventh section of the wooden dummy form concentrates more on kicks and sweeps. Mook Jong practice enables students to actually hit a real target, improve forearm strength, angle of attack and so much more.

Biu Tzi is the last hand form taught in the Wing Chun system. These techniques are more powerful and explosive; they could cause serious injuries to one’s opponents. This is the reason why Biu Tzi has only been taught to a select group of students.

Advanced students will also experience blindfold chi sau training – feeling the movements of their opponent without even seeing them. Also, they will learn two weapon forms, which include the Look Dim Bon Kwan (six and a half techniques pole) form, which improves the strength of one’s wrists, thrusting power, as well as the strength of one’s stance, and the Bat Cham Do (8 slashing swords) form, which improves even faster footwork and striking power.

Advance training methods also include heavy bag, focus mitt, and inch power training. For those students who would like to take it to the ultimate level, full contact man-to-man sparring or weapon-to-weapon sparring is available upon request!
